‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ Trailer: You Can Kill a Revolutionary But You Can’t Kill the Revolution

Warner Bros. has released a new official trailer for Judas and the Black Messiah. The upcoming American biographical drama film details the life of Fred Hampton, chairman of the Black Panther Party in late 1960s Illinois, and his betrayal at the hands of William O’Neal.

I’m not too familiar with the Black Panther Party (and its history), but I’ll give myself a pass since I’m not American. Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya are two of Hollywood’s finest actors of the new generation, and I am sure they will both be giving Oscar worthy performances.

Plot Synopsis:

FBI informant William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield) infiltrates the Illinois Black Panther Party and is tasked with keeping tabs on their charismatic leader, Chairman Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya). A career thief, O’Neal revels in the danger of manipulating both his comrades and his handler, Special Agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons). Hampton’s political prowess grows just as he’s falling in love with fellow revolutionary Deborah Johnson (Dominique Fishback). Meanwhile, a battle wages for O’Neal’s soul. Will he align with the forces of good? Or subdue Hampton and The Panthers by any means, as FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover (Martin Sheen) commands?

Judas and the Black Messiah hits theaters and HBO Max (for 31 days) on February 12, 2021.
