Michael Mitnick Writing Jim Henson Biopic ‘Muppet Man’ For Disney

Deadline reports that Michael Mitnick (The Current War) has been set to write the Jim Henson biopic Muppet Man for Disney and The Jim Henson Company.

The biopic will chronicle “the life and times of the legendary puppeteer, creator of The Muppets, Fraggle Rock and many of the Sesame Street characters, as well as director of cult films such as Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.”

That’s a lot of material to cover in a two-hour film, so the goal is to “home in on Henson’s journey to convince broadcasters that The Muppets was a great idea and how he worked to get the characters on air where they became a comedy staple.”

Mitnick is currently rewriting a previous version of a script by Adrift scribes Aaron and Jordan Kandell.

I’m a fan of Henson and The Muppets in general. I’ve watched plenty of old talk show interviews with Henson (alongside a Muppet or two) and found him to be an enthralling force. Whoever they cast as Henson for Muppet Man will need to be able to replicate the drawing power he had.

Who do you think Disney and the Jim Henson Company should cast as The Muppets creator? Are Kermit, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy too old to play themselves now? Chime in down in the comments!
