It’s finally here! SAW’s 1st Annual Movie Madness Tournament to determine what is the best movie of the 2010s. The process was started almost a year ago in order to decide the best of the best films from the past decade. Films were graded by an intricate scoring system in order to eliminate bias and subjectivity to help find the best field of 64 films we could gather. We also had five vote in polls where you guys helped select the remaining films. Seeds and matchups are the only places where subjectivity came into play to help spread the movies out to avoid certain genres from being piled together.
The process is easy. Click on the official voting ballot below, vote for each matchup in round two and submit your form. Voting for round three ends Saturday, March 21st at 11:59 pm CST. Check back on Sunday, March 22nd to see who won and to vote for the second round. We will continue weekly till there is one movie standing tall above the rest as the best movie of the 2010s.
Voting is closed.
Round Two Thoughts
Miller Region
Big winner: #4 Whiplash destroyed poor #12 Take Shelter by spanking them 95% to 5%. Also, #1 Fury Road keeps rolling easily into the Sweet Sixteen.
Big upset: #15 Eighth Grade taking down #7 True Grit is pretty surprising. Awkward little girls ftw!
Next round: Well Fury Road finally see some competition from the deranged band instructor or will it keeping barreling its way into the Elite Eight?
Coen Region
Big winner: #4 Arrival beating #5 Inside Out isn’t a big surprise but winning 75% to 25% is. I thought that matchup would be a little closer.
Big upset: No real big upset here except for #15 Black Swan tying to pull its best Cinderella by trying to make a deep run as a #15 seed.
Next Round: Both of these matchups are killer. Arrival vs 1917 and Inception vs Black Swan bot spell barn burning classics.
Fincher Region
Big winner: #10 Hereditary keeps up it’s dominating ways as it takes down #2 A Separation 90% to 10%.
Big upset: Down goes another #1 seed as The Social Network gets ripped to shreds by Logan 70% to 30%.
Next round: Another set of tough matchups as #9 Logan goes into battle with # 5 Dunkirk and in the other matchup we have weird family horror vs weird family horror with #3 Parasite taking on #10 Hereditary.
Jenkins Region
Big winner: Spider-Man slings his way into the Sweet Sixteen by taking down #6 First Reformed 95% to 5%.
Big upset: This is the region for upsets but the biggest leaves Fury Road as the lone #1 seed left standing as Moonlight has been dethroned by #9 Drive.
Next Round: Some interesting matchups As #9 Drive takes on #13 Blade Runner 2049 and #3 Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse battles #10 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to see who moves on to the Elite Eight.
Here is the BRACKET and it will be updated after each round to show the winners and losers.
