Disney has just released a teaser trailer for its upcoming live-action remake of Mulan. Check it out below.
You guys got the conversation started over in our weekend thread about this teaser, with the debate raging on how this would perform (more Dumbo than Aladdin). Personally, I was impressed with what I saw. I think Yifei Liu looks amazing in the role of Mulan, and some of the shots in the teaser look beautiful.
However, recent rumors suggest Mushu won’t be in the film and that the songs from the original animated film will only be used as instrumental music. That hasn’t gone over well with fans, but it all depends on how the film uses the music that will matter in the end. Replacing Mushu with a phoenix (as is rumored) is sort of dumb. After all, Mushu provides the comic relief, similar to the Genie in Aladdin. With that role removed, we could be looking at one of Disney’s first live-action remakes that is an epic drama.
Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li are also part of the cast.
