‘Muppets Now’ Trailer: Kermit Headlines a New Variety Show on Disney+

Disney+ has released an official trailer for Muppets Now, a new series starring Kermit and the rest of the Muppets. Because, you know, that’s all Disney will give them. A freakin’ Disney+ show. Bring back The Muppet Show already you cowards!

In all honesty, this looks like it could be enjoyable. The Muppets are at their best (at least in my opinion) when everything is either going wrong or when they lean into their absurdity (on how they are real animals and not felt puppets). I was actually disappointed more people didn’t watch the short-lived ABC series The Muppets because it actually brought Kermit and everyone else back to their more adult Sesame Street roots. But if Muppets Now is the only thing I’m going to be getting from the gang I’ll shut up and take it.

But seriously, just reboot The Muppet Show and make it like Saturday Night Live. Heck, just have Steve Martin host every episode. I don’t care, I just want more Muppets! And put that series Josh Gad had been developing set in the 1980s back in development, Disney! C’mon, use these characters more!

Plot Synopsis:

In a true first for the studio, “Muppets Now” is an unscripted series filled with improv comedy, off-the-cuff gags, and the Muppets’ celebrity friends. In the six-episode season, Scooter rushes to make his delivery deadlines and upload the brand-new Muppet series for streaming. They are due now, and he’ll need to navigate whatever obstacles, distractions, and complications the rest of the Muppets throws at him. Overflowing with spontaneous lunacy, surprising guest stars and more frogs, pigs, bears (and whatevers) than legally allowed, the Muppets cut loose in “Muppets Now” with the kind of startling silliness and chaotic fun that made them famous. From zany experiments with Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker to lifestyle tips from the fabulous Miss Piggy, each episode is packed with hilarious segments, hosted by the Muppets showcasing what the Muppets do best.

Muppets Now will be available on Disney+ starting July 31, 2020.
