One Choice: 2000s Oscar Best Picture Winners

Inspired by the popular online game that asks people to choose one movie from a group of four, One Choice… is pretty much the same game. Readers will be given four similar movies and asked to choose one. Now here’s the catch, the other three movies will be gone forever, wiped from your brain as if they never existed. Are you ready to theoretically live in a world where you have The Empire Strikes Back but not Star Wars or Return of the Jedi? What about the 1989 Batman movie but not Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight? The choice is yours, screenager, so choose wisely.

There were (obviously) ten Academy Award for Best Pictures winners for the 2000s, but only four have really stood the test of time and continue to get discussed on a regular basis.

Here are the 4 Movies:

Gladiator (2000)

Cast: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and Connie Nielsen

Synopsis: A former Roman General sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

Cast: Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, and Ian McKellen

Synopsis: Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron’s army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.

The Departed (2006)

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson

Synopsis: An undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston.

No Country for Old Men (2007)

Cast: Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin

Synopsis: Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.

So, will it be Gladiator, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Departed, or No Country for Old Men? It’s time to choose. What will be your One Choice?
