Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for Red Sonja. The upcoming sword and sorcery film is based on the beloved comic book character of the same name, who was in turn based on Robert E. Howard’s Red Sonya of Rogatino.
This looks like a direct-to-video fantasy movie from the 2010s. At the very least, the trailer is definitely edited like one. Good grief.
Matilda Lutz leads the movie as Red Sonja, with Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Rhona Mitra, and Veronica Ferres appearing in supporting roles.
Plot Synopsis:
Enslaved by an evil tyrant who wishes to destroy her people, barbarian huntress Red Sonja must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against Dragan The Magnificent and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia.
Red Sonja opens in theaters and on digital on August 15, 2025.
