Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in Ride Along

It took 10 years, but a third Ride Along movie is finally moving ahead at Universal.

According to Deadline, stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, director Tim Story, and producer Will Packer are all in early discussions to return for Ride Along 3.

A third movie in the action comedy franchise was announced back in 2016, a few months after Ride Along 2 was released, but never got off the ground due to the aforementioned foursome not being on the same page about what the threequel should be about. Well, apparently, Daniel Gold gave a pitch that got them all excited, and he is now writing the screenplay.

In the first Ride Along, which was released in 2014, security guard Ben Barber (Hart) must prove himself to his girlfriend’s brother, top police officer James Payton (Ice Cube). In doing so, Ben rides along with James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta. In the 2016 sequel, the duo head to Miami to take down a drug dealer who is supplying drugs to Atlanta.

Both Ride Along movies have been box office hits, grossing a collective $279 million worldwide off a combined $65 million budget. We don’t need to mention critical reception, because both movies have some ROUGH critics’ scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

We’ll keep you posted as this threequel comes together at Universal.
