ScreenAge Wasteland Hits the Terrible Twos: Let’s Celebrate Together!

On June 3, 2019, ScreenAge Wasteland officially launched. So…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!!

To commemorate actually being able to survive in the Wasteland a whole year, we’ve elected to make this month’s theme focus on Steven Spielberg, the winner of our Director Battle Royale Face/Off. You’ll be seeing an official SAW Ranks the movies of Steven Spielberg list later this month as well as a list counting down his most memorable movie characters.

So, what has changed in the last year and what can YOU do to help shape the future of ScreenAge Wasteland?

Well, we have more merch! A huge shoutout to K. Alvarez and Bob Cram who have made numerous pieces of art that occupy our RedBubble Shop. If you want to support the upkeep of the site, please consider purchasing a t-shirt or mug. We have lots of cool designs including original artwork and retro movie logos.

Also, keep an eye out for even more merch launching later this summer!

ScreenAge Wasteland also got into the podcasting. Vincent Kane and Sailor Monsoon co-host Night of the Lists and Total Recast, two movie podcasts that couldn’t be farther apart in terms of focus. One delves into every corner of the horror genre while the other reviews and recasts classic movies. We’ll let you decide which is which.

If you want to support them, you can join their Cult of Trash over on Patreon. You can also follow them on social media and any podcast platform:

HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD! ANSWER OUR QUESTIONNAIRE!

We are always tinkering with new ideas for the website. Some we love, some we hate. Some get good views, some don’t. That’s why we would love if you could take the time to answer our questionnaire that is targeted towards our readers and commenters (big and small)! Your voices will be heard and we will look to see how we can make the most of this site to benefit our growing community.

You can answer the questionnaire at the link above or here.

Of course, ScreenAge Wasteland would be a ghost town if it weren’t for our fearless commenters, our screenagers, our Wasteoids, our—dare I say it—friends.

Some of you guys are new and some have been with us since we first began this journey. SAW is what it is because of this community. It’s a place where everybody knows your name and movie preferences. We’re one big family. *cue obligatory Fast & Furious sip from a Corona*

For any of our readers who haven’t made the jump to commenting, now is the perfect time to set up a Disqus account and introduce yourself to us by telling us your favorite movie. I promise we don’t bite. Well, Sailor might, but that’s only because he hasn’t had his morning Vodquil yet.

And just as the commenters are an integral part of ScreenAge Wasteland, a website is nothing without content. That’s why we want to give a huge thank you to everyone who has ever contributed content to the site in the past, present, or future. Your personality and opinions have helped give SAW a unique voice in this growing wasteland we call home.

All of our writers volunteer their time for the site. We’d love to pay them actual cash for their work, but unfortunately that is not possible at this time. However, we can give their other non-SAW related projects and social media accounts a shoutout!

THANK-YOU!

Mitch Roush co-hosts the Watching Comics Podcast with his friend Jake Owens. You can find them on Twitter @WatchComixPod. Give them a follow! If you have a film or show that was adapted from a comic book there is a good chance they’ve talked about it!

If you love Romona Comet‘s romantic-comedy reviews every Tuesday then you need to check our her website It Was Like Magic which is devoted purely to the genre. If rom-coms aren’t really your thing then I implore you to check out her Stephen King podcast The Circle Opens. You can also follow her on Twitter @itwaslikemagic1.

Bob Cram not only does Fear Flashback every Friday, but he is also the mastermind behind the illustrated artwork available on our Redbubble account. He has also written two horror-centric books: 31 Days, 31 Horror Movies vol. 1 and The Monster War. You can find both of them on Amazon in Kindle and paperback formats.

Dr. Becky O’Brien is our newest writer, but she’s already leaving her mark. She runs Film Music Central, a film website dedicated to films, film music, and the composers behind the music. Check it out for soundtrack reviews and composer interviews that you cannot find on other sites! She also vlogs over on her YouTube channel Life As A MusicGamer. You can find her on Twitter @musicgamer460.

Lee McCutcheon operates the Twitter account @twentywordMR which stands for Twenty Word Movie Reviews. Give him a follow for concise and excellently written movie reviews of old and new films.

Mark Naff is the man behind the editorial. Make sure to check out My Life as a Stranger on YouTube, a short film series that was written, produced, and co-directed by Naff. You can also follow him on Twitter @QuestionMarkNaf.

Make sure to follow the rest of the team on Twitter. Cody Legens can be found @CLeg19. You can find D. N. Williams tweeting @dnwilliamsJacob Holmes can be reached @JacobHolmes62. Finally, Ralph Hosch can be found @rhoschjr.

NOW LET’S CELEBRATE!

It’s time to head down to the comments and get this party started! We hope to see old and familiar faces drop in (even if it’s just for a quick hi and to confirm you’re still around)!

Please feel free to tag any of your Disqus friends that you think would also love to be a part of ScreenAge Wasteland. This is a community that is open to anyone and everyone who wants to come together and talk about what we all love: movies.

We’ll see you in the trenches, screenagers! Take care.
