‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Trailer: The Redesign Looks a Lot Better

Paramount has just released the new Sonic the Hedgehog trailer. It gives us our first official look at the redesigned Sonic, and I have to say that it looks 100x better.

Now that’s the Sonic we all love and know. If you somehow managed to bleach your eyeballs and forgot what Sonic originally looked like, here’s a side-by-side comparison.

My god, it is amazing that making something more cartoony in a live-action landscape actually works better. That monster on the right looks like a science experiment gone wrong. Sonic on the left looks like an enjoyable little scamp.

I’m digging Ben Scwartz‘s voice as Sonic, and Jim Carrey looks like he’s having fun. I think the redesign worked in the film’s favor as I’m way more likely to go see it now than before. Is that dumb? I don’t care, I just know I’d pick this over Fantasy Island for Valentine’s Day.

Plot Synopsis:

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog hits theaters February 14, 2020.

What do you guys think of the redesign? Will you be seeing the movie in theaters?
