‘The Witcher’ Trailer: The Next ‘Game of Thrones’ is Here

Netflix has released the main trailer for its upcoming The Witcher series, starring Henry Cavill. Let’s take a look at what could be the next Game of Thrones, now that we know the prequels aren’t happening anytime soon.

Honestly, I know nothing about The Witcher, but my one friend says Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best video games he’s played.

I think Cavill is a pretty good actor, and I’m glad he’s finally found a role that we can see him grow with (after The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Superman failed to go anywhere). After all, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed in an interview with SFX Magazine (via The Playlist) that she’s got quite the narrative penciled out:

“I’ve [mapped out stories] for seven seasons. Right now it’s just about, ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’ The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to.”

She may be a bit too optimistic that Netflix will give them seven seasons. I can only think of one show that managed to get that many (Orange is the New Black). But if The Witcher is a huge success, never say never to Netflix.

Plot Synopsis:

In The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The Witcher premieres December 20, 2019 on Netflix.

Are you guys interested in seeing this? Have you read any of the novels or played the video games?
