‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Trailer: Donkey Kong, Luigi, Mario Kart, Oh My!

Illumination has released a new official trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Let’s take a look and see if Mario still sounds like Chris Pratt.

Okay, it all makes sense now. This movie is trying to out cheese the live-action film from the ’90s. And honestly, it’s working. This looks absolutely goofy. Why is Mario fighting Donkey Kong? Why are they racing on Rainbow Road? I don’t know and I don’t really care. If this film actually manages to successfully reference or include every single Mario franchise then I’ll be hella impressed. Good luck, Illumination. I’m rooting for you to succeed now.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie stars Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, The Super Mario Bros. Movie opens in theaters on April 7, 2022.
