‘House of the Dragon’ Star Milly Alcock Cast as the DCU’s Supergirl

Milly Alcock, best known for playing the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, has been cast as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

The Australia-born actor reportedly beat out CODA actor Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, the latter who voiced Supergirl in the animated films Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

Alcock confirmed the casting on Instagram, writing, “So excited to be a part of the DC fam – thank you so much to @jamesgunn for trusting me with Kara / Supergirl.”

Gunn also released a statement on Threads, revealing that Alcock was the first actor he had in mind for the DC superhero:

“In case you missed this exciting news yesterday. Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter [Safran] for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics. I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes.”

At the time of writing, Alcock’s Supergirl is rumored to appear in Superman: Legacy, although that remains unconfirmed. She will, however, headline her own solo film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the comic book limited series of the same name by Tom King.

We’ll keep you posted as Gunn’s DCU continues to grow.
