Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle to Be Reintroduced in ‘Man of Tomorrow’

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s official: Xolo Maridueña‘s Blue Beetle will live on in the DC Universe.

James Gunn is further blurring the lines between the DC Extended Universe and the DCU with this latest casting report. According to TheWrap, Maridueña will return as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow, which is shaping up to be quite the superhero-studded affair.

The Superman sequel will act as the character’s reintroduction into the DCU. Remember screenagers, the 2023 Blue Beetle film itself is not canon to the DCU, but certain events from that film may become canon in the DCU if mentioned in Man of Tomorrow.

While David Corenswet‘s Superman and Nicholas Hoult‘s Lex Luthor are being billed as the leads of Man of Tomorrow, it’s become apparent from all the casting that this will once again feature way more characters than those that just populate Superman comics.

Other superheroes set to appear in Man of Tomorrow include Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Supergirl (Milly Alcock), and two Green Lanterns (Aaron Pierre‘s John Stewart and Nathan Fillion‘s Guy Gardner). Adria Arjona may also be playing the DCU’s Wonder Woman, although the more likely bet is Maxima.

Blue Beetle’s DCU debut in Man of Tomorrow comes ahead of the character’s upcoming animated series, which was announced in June 2024. Miguel Puga is serving as showrunner and director on the project, with Cristian Martinez attached as a writer.

Man of Tomorrow is slated to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
