‘The 355’ Trailer: Proof Bond Never Needs to Be Female

Universal has released an official trailer for The 355, featuring an all-star cast of actresses. We’ve been hearing about this film since it was first announced, so let’s jump right in and check out the trailer!

Yup, I’m sold. This definitely has the potential to be the next big action franchise. You have several A-list stars like Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o kicking ass and taking names. I’m digging the spy premise, and the international cast approach. It doesn’t feel forced, but natural.

It also proves that you don’t need to turn James Bond into a woman to have a successful female-led action franchise. There’s been numerous films in the past, like Atomic Blonde, that have featured original female action characters that could easily hold their own against 007. The 355 introduces us to a world that could easily be set in the same universe as Jason Bourne or James Bond. I can’t wait to see this in theaters.

Plot Synopsis:

When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, wild card CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown (Jessica Chastain) will need to join forces with rival badass German agent Marie (Diane Kruger), former MI6 ally and cutting-edge computer specialist Khadijah (Lupita Nyong’o), and skilled Colombian psychologist Graciela (Penélope Cruz) on a lethal, breakneck mission to retrieve it, while also staying one-step ahead of a mysterious woman, Lin Mi Sheng (Bingbing Fan), who is tracking their every move.

As the action rockets around the globe from the cafes of Paris to the markets of Morocco to the wealth and glamour of Shanghai, the quartet of women will forge a tenuous loyalty that could protect the world—or get them killed.

The 355 hits theaters January 15, 2021.
