A fourth Bridget Jones movie is officially in development.
Per Deadline, Renée Zellweger has closed a deal to reprise the title role in Universal Pictures and Working Title’s Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Michael Morris (To Leslie) will direct from a screenplay by Helen Fielding (the author of the Bridget Jones novels), Dan Mazer, and Abi Morgan.
Others set to return in the film include Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver and Emma Thompson as Dr. Rawling. Grant appeared in the first two Bridget Jones movies while Thompson made her franchise debut in 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. Newcomers to the cast will include Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.
Mad About the Boy will loosely adapt Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name, which picks up with Bridget in her early fifties, as she navigates the challenges of modern life while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood.
Across three movies, the Bridget Jones franchise has grossed over $760 million worldwide. So, it boggles at least my mind that Universal will only be releasing Mad About the Boy in theaters internationally. In the United States, the sequel will go straight to streaming on Peacock.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy hits international theaters and Peacock in the U.S. on February 14, 2025.
Are you excited for a fourth Bridget Jones movie? Are you sad it won’t be released in theaters in the U.S.?
