Another Christmas classic is getting a sequel.
Per Deadline, Searchlight has announced The Families Stone, a sequel to the beloved 2005 holiday film The Family Stone. Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Schneider, and Brian White are all returning for the sequel.
Nelson reprises as patriarch Kelly Stone, with Danes back as Julie Morton, McAdams as Amy Stone, Mulroney as Everett Stone, Parker as Meredith Morton, Wilson as Ben Stone, Giordano as Thad Stone, Reaser as Susannah Stone, Schneider as Brad Stevenson, and White as Patrick Thomas.
The only major actor from The Family Stone who won’t be back is Diane Keaton, who passed away in October 2025. However, her character will still play an important role in the sequel.
According to the first plot details for The Families Stone, the sequel picks up 20 years after the death of Keaton’s character, matriarch Sybil Stone — something that was depicted in the original film — as the Stone family again reunites for Christmas, only to face the season’s biggest surprise: their father (Nelson) has unexpectedly invited the woman he’s fallen in love with to meet the family.
Tom Bezucha has returned to direct from his own script. Production is set to take place in New York this fall.
