The First ‘Morbius’ Trailer Ties Itself to the MCU

Sony has just released the first Morbius trailer and boy does it want to be in the MCU or what?

I gotta say I like the overall darker tone of the trailer, but once again Sony doesn’t quite know what they want to be in the Marvel age of movies. They put it straight out there that this film is “in association with Marvel” but then they shoehorn in an MCU cameo at the end of the trailer that may throw some non MCU obsessed movie goers for a loop.

I’m just not sure how I feel about how this merger is working between the two companies. I really wish Marvel/Disney would just back several dump trucks of cash over to Sony and buy them out. Venom may have done well, but I feel like it was ultimately a very forgettable film.

Knowing Sony and having Daniel Espinosa as the director for the film, they may still find a way to tie his previous film Life into the Venom backstory.

Plot Synopsis:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Morbius hits theaters July 31, 2020 March 19, 2021.
