Disney released an official teaser trailer for The Little Mermaid, an upcoming live-action remake of the beloved 1989 animated film, during the D23 Expo 2022. Let’s take a look.
You know what, I don’t hate it. Truth be told, The Little Mermaid is one of my least favorites of the Disney animated classics, but I’m willing to give this remake a chance. Halle Bailey looks good in the title role and Ariel is still rocking her red locks (which, as a ginger, I appreciate). All in all, I don’t see the reason to be disliking this film when so little has been shown to us at this time. My advice: wait until there’s a full trailer and then hate away if you must.
In addition to Bailey, The Little Mermaid stars Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
Plot Synopsis:
Directed by Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.
