‘The Pale Blue Eye’ Trailer: Christian Bale Solves a String of Murders with a Young Edgar Allan Poe

Netflix has released an official teaser trailer for The Pale Blue Eye, an upcoming gothic horror mystery film starring Christian Bale and Harry Melling. Let’s take a look.

I mean, the teaser doesn’t tell us much, but I don’t need it to; I’m already sold on seeing a murder mystery with Edgar Allan Poe as one of the main characters. The Pale Blue Eye is based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Louis Bayard, which makes me sort of want to hunt down a copy of the book before watching the film.

Bale and Melling lead an ensemble cast that includes Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, and Robert Duvall. Now that’s a cast!

Plot Synopsis:

West Point, 1830. A world-weary detective is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe.

Written and directed by Scott Cooper, The Pale Blue Eye opens in limited theaters on December 23, 2022, before its release on Netflix on January 6, 2023.
