‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’ Trailer: Her Voice Would Not Be Silenced

Hulu has released an official trailer for The United States vs. Billie Holiday, the upcoming Lee Daniels biopic about the iconic Blues singer.

Andra Day looks to be giving an awards-worthy performance here. It’s sort of weird to be seeing trailers for films coming out in February that could easily win multiple Oscars. The stretched eligibility window for this year’s Oscars have led to numerous high-profile films getting early 2021 release dates. It is strange, and I cannot wait for the eligibility window to go back to normal.

But yeah, this film looks good. I’ll definitely watch it. Director Lee Daniels knows his stuff.

Plot Synopsis:

Known as one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, Billie Holiday spent much of her career being adored by fans across the globe. Beginning in the 1940’s in New York City, the federal government targeted Holiday in a growing effort to escalate and racialize the war on drugs, ultimately aiming to stop her from singing her controversial and heart-wrenching ballad, “Strange Fruit.”

The United States vs. Billie Holiday begins streaming February 26, 2021 on Hulu.
