‘Velma’ Trailer: HBO Max Reinvents ‘Scooby-Doo’ as an Adult Animated Series

HBO Max has released an official teaser trailer for Velma, an upcoming adult animated series from Mindy Kaling that reimagines the Scooby-Doo franchise for a new generation. Let’s take a look.

I’m torn on Velma. I love a good meta-reference, but this feels a bit strange for Scooby-Doo. I’m digging Velma’s vibes and I’m all for a more mature Scooby-Doo series… I just don’t know. Fingers crossed this surprises us all.

The rest of Mystery Inc. will be voiced by Glenn Howerton (as Fred), Sam Richardson (as Shaggy), and Constance Wu (as Daphne), joining Mindy Kaling as the voice of the title character. The first season will consist of 10 episodes.

Oh, and apparently Scooby-Doo won’t be in the series, like at all. Warner Bros. reportedly banned him from appearing in Velma. So do with that information as you want.

Plot Synopsis:

Velma is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and under-appreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.

Velma will begin premiere on HBO Max in 2023.
