MOVIES WATCHED THIS WEEK

The Devil’s Rejects (2005)

“The murderous, backwoods Firefly family take to the road to escape a vengeful police force which is not afraid of being as ruthless as their target.”

Here are mine and Sailor’s thoughts from Double Impact!

Sisters (1972)

“A fledgling Staten Island journalist witnesses a brutal murder in the neighboring apartment of a French-Canadian model, but the police do not believe that the crime took place. With the help of a private detective, she seeks out the truth.”

A solid little thriller that is a bit on the melodramatic side. Young Margot Kidder is pretty adorable here and De Palma is definitely in his Hitchcock groove here. It walks the line of almost being too silly but never goes too far. (4/5)

Full Metal Jacket (1987)

“A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.”

I’ll admit that I only watch the basic training portion of this and man does it still kill me. R. Lee Ermey just dominates this part of the film and he is pitch-perfect as the money, foul-mouthed Gunnery Sergeant. The fact that he ad-libbed almost all his lines and only needed a couple of takes at times is mind-boggling. (5/5)
