Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
We all have actors we love. Those men and women who attract us to their movies simply because of what they do in front of the camera. We click with their humor, personality, or we are simply amazed by their ability to transform into the characters they are portraying. Whatever the reason, we all have those who we just want to watch act on-screen in front of our eyes. However, we also have those actors that just do nothing for us. Even the ones that are considered to be some of the greatest actors of all-time. Something just doesn’t click or we don’t agree with their label of “great”. We watch and scratch our head about all the fuss of this “amazing” thespian. Maybe you have tried to watch several of their works and just nothing. You aren’t drawn to their movies and aren’t too excited when they pop up in a movie you are enjoying.
So the question I ask today is: What “great” actor does nothing for you?
Let me explain that we aren’t just talking about any actor. There are certain actors that are considered to be “great’ by the general public and critics or they are held on a pedestal because of their accomplishments in acting. I, honestly, have several but will only focus on a couple. They are a couple of big ones too. The first one is Meryl Streep. I have watched several of her films and I just don’t get it. I just don’t see anything special about her performances and there is nothing there to draw me to any of her films.
The next one is Harrison Ford. I watched the Star Wars and the Indiana Jones just like every other 80s kid but he usually isn’t what stood out to me or kept me watching. I have never watched a movie because Harrison Ford was in it and I have never watched a movie of his where he was memorable to me. What Lies Beneath might be my favorite performance of his but I think most actors could have played that part and done it better.
I’m not arguing their ranks amongst the greats of the actors in the movie biz but these are two greats that simply do nothing for me.
