What Horror Character is Long Overdue for a New Movie?

Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.

Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.

Decades ago, in a time known as The ’80s, movie sequels to beloved horror characters would come out almost every single year. Those franchises were quickly built on box office success and theater audiences’ fears and tears.

Flash forward to 2021 and horror sequels still exist, but they don’t happen as often. Maybe Freddy, Jason, and Michael will be brought back every 3 to 10 years for a sequel, but it’s no longer the glory days. Some franchises still churn out a healthy amount of sequels, like Chucky and Puppet Master, but they have shifted to direct-to-video releases.

There are a lot of iconic horror characters collecting dust, so the question I ask today is: what horror character is overdue for a new movie?

If I didn’t know that a new Scream movie was coming out next January, I would probably say Ghostface.

Norman Bates would be my next answer, but we just got that amazing TV prequel series, Bates Motel, so I don’t need a new film in the Psycho franchise yet.

What I want is another Jason Voorhees movie, especially if it’s a sequel to the 2009 reboot.

So what about you, folks? What horror character would you love to see have a movie announced tomorrow?

I’ll see you in the trenches.
