What is it About Movies That Appeals to You?

Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.

Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.

There are a lot of reasons why we watch movies. Sometime it’s the writing. Sometimes it’s the characters. Sometimes it’s the world that they inhabit. It can be a combination of all of these things or something completely different.

So, the question I ask today is: What is it about movies that appeals to you?

Thought I’d ask a different type of question today. Instead of giving a simple answer to a simple question, perhaps you will indulge me in providing more of an opinion.

For me, it has everything to do with the characters and the writing, and the writing of those characters. I’m not particularly saying that “I don’t care about the plot”, but what I do care about is being able of connecting with the characters. Whether those characters are set in the real world or a fantasy world, I would like them to have a little bit of depth.

So what about you, screenagers? What is it about movies that appeals to you?

I’ll see you in the trenches.
