Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
Actors come and go like the wind. Some explode and have an incredible 15 minutes of fame where it seems like they are in everything for a small two to three-year window making it feel like they will be around forever. A number of actors have great potential but have their careers derailed for whatever reason. Others just have the right look and people simply figure out they are awful. We as fans gravitate toward certain actors, getting behind some of these believing they would not only be the next big thing but will be around for a long time to come. However, many of these actors crash and burn without ever fully reaching their potential which leads me to our QOTD.
So the question I ask today is: Which actor did you think would have a bigger career?
I think there are several actors that can fall under this category but one of the biggest career flops of someone I really got behind was Lindsay Lohan. She was one of the biggest stars of the early 2000s with her career peaking in 2004 with her role in Mean Girls. She was on Disney, had a music career, starred with some of the biggest stars seemingly ready to be a top star for years to come only to become one of the stereotypical child star craziness. Her career would nose dive extremely fast, never recovering.
I will say I don’t think Lohan would have been a great actress in the vein of Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, or anything like that. However, I could have seen her being a mainstay in rom-coms with the ability to take on some more serious roles once she matured and worked on her craft. Looking back on her run of Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Mean Girls, it seemed like an easy assumption to make that Lohan would still be going strong as a big star for years after.
So what about you, folks? Which actor did you think would have a bigger career?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
