Netflix has released a date announcement teaser for season 3 of YOU along with some first look images. Let’s take a look.
I have mixed feelings about this upcoming third season. The first season of You absolutely hooked me when I first watched it a couple of years ago. I loved the character of Joe Goldberg and his brutally honest view of the world. Sure he was a murderer, but at least his observations about the world and how easy it was to find out everything about someone online were spot-on.
The first two seasons adapt the books You and Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes. I highly recommend reading them. They are excellent page turners, and really improve upon the TV show (if you came to the books after the TV series like I did).
Unfortunately, the third book in the series, You Love Me, was not that good. Too repetitive and lacking in the charm that made the first two books such good reads. Luckily, season 3 of You seems to be based very loosely on the third book, if at all. You Love Me was released in April of 2021 long after the writers’ room on the series had planned its story. I still see a few connections to the third book, but this is largely an original story at this point. And that might be for the better.
Penn Badgley reprises his role from previous seasons as Joe Goldberg and is joined by Victoria Pedretti, reprising her role from season 2 as Love Quinn, as the two main leads of season 3.
Also starring in season 3 of You are Saffron Burrows as Dottie Quinn, Tati Gabrielle as Marianne, Dylan Arnold as Theo, Shalita Grant as Sherry, Travis Van Winkle as Cary, Scott Speedman as Matthew, Michaela McManus as Natalie, Shannon Chan-Kent as Kiki, Ben Menhl as Dante, Chris O’Shea as Andrew, and Christopher Sean as Brandon.
Plot Synopsis:
You season 3 begins streaming October 15, 2021 on Netflix.
