I have found it to be a pretty futile endeavor to make a list of my very favorite movies. I’ve come to accept that I’ll never really be fully happy with how it turns out, no matter how much tweaking I do, and that I’ll never be able to untangle the issue of “objective” quality versus personal sentimental value and the subjectivity of experience. I made my first attempt at a “Favorite Movies” list in 2024, and it quickly ballooned to around 150. In mid-2025, I started the “Thousand Suns” project on Letterboxd, where I watch and review my favorite movies (a.k.a. movies I love with the fire of a thousand suns). So I had a pretty good list going already when we decided to compile these lists for ScreenAge Wasteland – I simply had to order them in numerical order and pare the list down to a clean 100, which was both about as fun as pulling out all of my teeth with a wrench.
Regardless, I’ve now compiled the list below, which should be a pretty good indicator of my taste. The order is almost entirely arbitrary, and many of the omissions were of the more obvious variety, simply to make it a more interesting list. Enjoy, I guess?
