2022 Oscar Winners: ‘CODA’ Wins Best Picture; First Streaming Movie to Win Top Honor

The 94th Academy Awards aired live on ABC last night and apparently it was quite the event. I wrote that exact same opening line for last year’s Oscar winners post, but last year’s was written as a joke because I didn’t watch them or care to watch them. This year’s however was a whole other story.

Okay, I didn’t watch anything from the Oscars last night except for “The Slap” (which will surely win an Emmy later this year, right?). Whether you think it was staged or real, it was definitely a newsworthy moment for the Oscars. Did it help with their ratings? I have no clue.

CODA took home Best Picture, becoming the first movie from a streaming service to win the top honor. Suck it, Netflix. Dune practically swept all the technical awards. And Jane Campion won Best Director, which means it was the first time that female directors took home that award in back-to-back years. That’s pretty cool (if you care about those details).

But enough talking about the show no one watched except for that one viral moment. Let’s check out the full list of winners (in bold) from the 94th Academy Awards below.
