Sony is heading back to Jump Street.

24 Jump Street is back in active development at the studio, reports Variety. Franchise stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube are in talks to return for the third installment in the R-rated crime comedy franchise.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller — who directed the first two films, 2012’s 21 Jump Street and 2014’s 22 Jump Street — are also returning, albeit as producers alongside Neal H. Moritz.

Rodney Rothman (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) will instead direct the threequel. He had previously been attached to write and direct the female-driven 21 Jump Street spinoff that was in development in the mid-2010s. It ultimately never came to fruition. Rothman also wrote the script for 24 Jump Streetwith Hill and Meghan Malloy.

What Happened to 23 Jump Street?

A third Jump Street movie has been in various stages of development at Sony since 22 Jump Street hit theaters more than a decade ago. For a while, the plan was to merge the worlds of 21 Jump Street with Men in Black with a crossover film titled MIB 23. However, that idea was ultimately dropped, despite Tatum declaring that it had “the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie.”

Still, why is 24 Jump Street not titled 23 Jump Street? Well, Moritz shared on Instagram a photo of the 24 Jump Street script, which features the tagline: “It took so long to make we had to skip one.” So there you go, blame time for not giving us Schmidt and Jenko in medical school.

Not much else is known at this time about 24 Jump Street, but we’ll make sure to keep you informed.
