Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicked off today in London with Lucasfilm revealing a lot of new information on a trio of upcoming Star Wars series.
First off, Andor creator Tony Gilroy revealed that the show’s second and final season will premiere in August 2024. “We started shooting in November. We’re halfway. We will finish shooting in August, a year on post[-production], and we’ll come out in the following August,” Gilroy said. A teaser trailer for Season 2 was also shown but was unfortunately not released online.
Footage from The Acolyte was also screened (but again, not released online), offering those in attendance the first look at the High Republic-set series. According to sources, the footage features Carrie-Anne Moss’ Jedi Master in battle with Amandla Stenberg’s character. Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-Jae can also be seen wielding a lightsaber. “I play the Jedi Master,” Jung-jae said while on stage promoting the show. “It was the first time I touched a lightsaber and I’m still shaking from the experience.”
The Acolyte also debuted a sleek new logo (which can be seen above). The show is still in production in London and will premiere in 2024. At Celebration, Acolyte creator Leslye Headland revealed that she pitched the show to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy as a “mix between Frozen and Kill Bill” with inspiration from Akira Kurosawa’s films of the 1950s.
Finally, Skeleton Crew debuted a first trailer, which — you guessed it — wasn’t released online afterward. The trailer features Jude Law’s Jedi sporting a clean shaved head. Jon Favreau also confirmed who will be directing episodes of Skeleton Crew and it’s an insanely talented line-up. Are you ready? Here we go: Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming), David Lowery (The Green Knight), The Daniels (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Jake Schreier (Paper Towns), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Mandalorian), and Lee Isaac Chung (Minari). Hype! Skeleton Crew is still expected to premiere later this year.
Oh, a new teaser trailer for Ahsoka was also released! You can watch it here.
