Welcome to Derry will be a true IT prequel after all.

According to Deadline, Bill Skarsgård is set to star in and executive produce the Max IT prequel series Welcome To Derry, which is somehow still being reported as a working title for the project. He will be reprising the title role as It/Pennywise from Warner Bros.’ wildly successful two-part film adaptation of Stephen King‘s IT.

Skarsgård joins previously cast Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Madeleine Stowe.

Welcome to Derry began production in May 2023, although filming was halted during the SAG-AFTRA strike. Andy Muschietti, who directed the two-part IT adaptation, returned to direct four episodes of the nine-episode series.

Producer Barbara Muschietti and Chapter Two co-producer Jason Fuchs, as well as the films’ other producers, Roy Lee and Dan Lin, are also attached to the project. Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners on Welcome to Derry.

“Set in the world of King’s IT universe, Welcome To Derry expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films,” reads the logline for the series.

Welcome to Derry is expected to premiere on Max in 2025.
