‘The Penguin’ Showrunner in Talks for Poison Ivy Series at DC Studios

The comic book version of Poison Ivy.

DC Studios just cannot shy away from giving every major Batman villain their own solo project.

According to Deadline, The Penguin showrunner and executive producer Lauren LeFranc is in talks to produce a Poison Ivy-focused television series for Warner Bros. and DC Studios. At this time, LeFranc would only be producing the series and not writing the character’s story. If picked up, the show would air on HBO.

However, despite LeFranc shepherding The Penguin limited series, which is part of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga, the untitled Poison Ivy show would not be part of that universe. It’s unclear if the project would fall under the DC Universe or exist as a DC Elseworlds one-off.

Created by Carmine Infantino and Robert Kanigher, Poison Ivy is the alias used by Dr. Pamela Isley. She can control anyone she wants by using her pheromones. She also has an army at her disposal, as she is able to control the flora around her. She was famously played in live-action by Uma Thurman in Batman & Robin, and voiced, most recently, by Lake Bell in the adult animated series Harley Quinn.

Poison Ivy is the fifth Batman villain to receive her own solo project. The first was Catwoman, although the 2004 film featured a new backstory and identity for Batman’s recurring love interest/villain. Then there were the Joker solo films starring Joaquin Phoenix, who even won the Oscar for Best Actor for the 2019 original. Lady Gaga played Harley Quinn in the sequel.

Of course, The Penguin was an eight-episode limited series set after Reeves’ The Batman, with Colin Farrell reprising his role as the title villain. The fourth and most recent villain is Clayface. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen / Clayface in Clayface, alongside Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan. The R-rated body horror film will be the third film in the DCU. It hits theaters this Friday, October 23, 2026.

What do you think of Poison Ivy getting her own show? Should this be set in the DCU or exist as a DC Elseworlds project? Who would you cast as Poison Ivy?
