Hot off the success of Joker becoming the first R-rated film to make $1 billion at the worldwide box office, Birds of Prey has just been rated R.

We’ve known for a while now that Birds of Prey would more than likely get an R-rating. Margot Robbie has mentioned it countless times in the past. Still, until it becomes official, you always have to wonder if the studio will get nervous and slash it down to a PG-13.

However, in the past few years we’ve seen R-rated comic book films absolutely light up the box office. Deadpool, Logan, and Joker have shown that fans are absolutely willing to flood the theaters to see a darker, more mature take on these beloved characters.

The official MPAA rating for Birds of Prey is R due to “strong violence and language throughout, and some sexual and drug material.”

Birds of Prey opens February 7, 2020.
