‘Blue Beetle’ Trailer: Jaime Reyes Enters the DC Universe

Warner Bros. has released an official trailer for Blue Beetle, an upcoming film set in the DC Universe that stars Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) in the title role. Let’s take a look.

Okay, the suit actually looks really good in live-action (shockingly) and I think Maridueña is doing a pretty convincing job portraying the titular hero. However, there’s not much else to go on here. What’s the story? I’m hoping this will end up being a surprise hit because I actually think there’s room for Blue Beetle in James Gunn’s rebooted DCU.

Blue Beetle stars Maridueña, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez.

Plot Synopsis:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle opens in theaters on August 18, 2023.
