20th Century Studios has found its new Sigourney Weaver.
According to Deadline, Cailee Spaeny is in talks to star in the studio’s new Alien movie, which will be directed by Fede Alvarez. 20th Century had no comment.
So who is Cailee Spaeny? Well, audiences may recognize her for her role as Amara Namani in 2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising. She also had roles in Bad Times at the El Royale, On the Basis of Sex, and Vice (all 2018), and played Lily Schechner in 2020’s The Craft: Legacy. If TV is really more your thing, she has appeared in Devs and Mare of Easttown. Upcoming projects include portraying Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and an undisclosed role in Alex Garland’s Civil War.
Plot details are scarce for this new Alien movie. All we know for sure is that Xenomorphs will be front and center and once again reigning terror against the humans that cross their paths. Apparently, Alvarez delivered one hell of a pitch because the film is being fast-tracked by 20th Century. Production is currently targeting an early 2023 start.
No release date has yet been announced for Alvarez’s Alien movie. We’ll keep you posted.
Are you familiar with Cailee Spaeny’s work? Do you think she’s a good choice to lead the next Alien movie?
