Casting Roundup: Matthew Lillard Boards ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ Brendan Fraser Is ‘Starman’ & Melissa Barrera Returns to Horror

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Some exciting casting news has been shared this week, so let’s break it all down.

First off, Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow, per Deadline. The DC Universe movie serves as a follow-up to last year’s Superman. James Gunn returns as writer and director. It’s unclear who Lillard is playing at this time, but fans have thrown out Commissioner Gordon, Calculator, and Lionel Luthor. I got to say, Lillard as Commissioner Gordon would be pretty, pretty sweet.

Next, Deadline is reporting that Brendan Fraser is set to star in the cosmic sci-fi thriller Starman from writer and director Josh Wakely. In Starman, Fraser will portray visionary technologist Tom Adams — an architect of the future — who launches a historic expedition to Mars, positioning himself at the forefront of humanity’s next frontier. But when unforeseen events find him millions of miles from Earth, his mission becomes an unexpected and urgent race against time, driven not by survival alone but by love.

Lastly, Melissa Barrera is making her long-awaited return to the horror genre. Per Deadline, the actor will lead Inhabit, which has been described as blending “psychological horror with relentless supernatural dread” and offering a “chilling exploration of trauma, motherhood, and the responsibility of unfathomable power.”

Adam Alleca wrote and will direct Inhabit, which follows a young woman who, following a traumatic life-changing event, moves into a rundown apartment complex in search of a fresh start. When she’s terrorized by bizarre occurrences — unhinged neighbors, uncanny stalkers, unprovoked violence — she comes to believe she’s being targeted by a possessive force that breaks her understanding of reality. A force that can only be overcome by confronting the darkest parts of her own nature.

Inhabit is the first horror project that Barrera has booked since she was fired from Scream 7 in November 2023. While horror-comedies Your Monster and Abigail were released in 2024, both had wrapped production by the time of her firing.
