Peacock has finally announced the premiere date for its highly anticipated Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
Per Variety, the upcoming series will premiere on Peacock on Thursday, October 15, 2026. As many have already pointed out online, the streamer has decided not to wait until November to premiere the prequel on an actual Friday the 13th date. It sort of seems like a missed opportunity, but what do I know?
Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini in the leading role of Pamela Voorhees, with Callum Vinson as a young Jason Voorhees.
Brad Caleb Kane developed the series for Peacock and A24. The prequel follows Voorhees’ life prior to the events of the first Friday the 13th film. Whether this show will actually be canon to the film franchise or a modern-day reboot à la Bates Motel remains to be seen.
The other major release date news this week came from Nintendo executive and The Legend of Zelda co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who revealed on X that Sony’s live-action adaptation has moved up a week on the release calendar.
“This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7,” he shared on X. “The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There’s less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”
The Legend of Zelda will now arrive in theaters on April 30, 2027, instead of May 7, 2027. This is the movie’s second major release date change. It was originally set for March 26, 2027, before being pushed back to May 7 due to “production reasons.”
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason lead the cast of the movie as Link and Princess Zelda, respectively. The Legend of Zelda, based on the video game franchise, centers on elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda, who team up to fight Ganon, a former warlord-turned-evil-demon-king, and save the magical land of Hyrule.
