Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
A couple of days ago, Kane posted the following up on the walls at SAW headquarters:
He then asked what forms today’s QOTD: Did the Avengers make the world a worse place after Avengers: Endgame?
I don’t think there’s an easy answer here. It’s true that the events of Endgame directly impacted the plot of Eternals. And it’s the heroes that returned from Hulk’s snap that tampered with the fabric of the multiverse.
However, we haven’t seen enough from the five-year period between Infinity War and Endgame to see if the world was actually a better place. Would crime have not been more rampant after you lose half your world leaders? I actually think the structure of the world as we see it today would have collapsed after Thanos’ snap. I think it would have been better on Marvel’s part to almost make the world seem like a dystopian realm where everyone is fighting to survive and there are only a few safe cities in the world. I mean, even when the snap was undone, we saw in Far From Home that the returned were homeless or displaced from their previous lives.
It’s all very confusing, and I’m not a big fan of how some characters are now five years “younger” than they would have been if they had never been snapped away. So, my answer is that the world was probably better off not undoing the snap. However, if we end up seeing more of that five-year period and the struggles/darkness that encompassed it I might change my mind.
So what about you, folks? Do you think the MCU would have been better off if Thanos’s snap wasn’t undone?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
