Down the Tubes: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About John McTiernan’s ‘Predator’

Down the Tubes is a (semi) regular feature where we, the SAW staff, share our favorite movie-related videos with the Wasteland.

Please share your video recommendations with us at info.screenagewasteland@gmail.com or on Twitter @SAWasteland.

There’s no shortage of YouTubers with opinions on movies, books, video games, and pop culture in general. Like most of the internet, it seems the more extreme the opinion, the more attention it garners.

But if you’re looking for some good old fashioned fact-based movie commentary – the kind of stuff you can sink your movie-loving teeth into – you can’t go wrong with Oliver Harper.

He’s got a ton of reviews and some interviews and other assorted stuff, but I’m partial to his retrospectives. And his deep dive into John McTiernan’s Predator is no exception.

Check out the video and check out Harper’s channel for a ton of other videos you might like as well.

Predator failed to make the cut for our 100 Greatest 80s Movies of All Time list, which ruffled more than a few feathers. Check out the list and tell us what we got wrong or right. We’re releasing them in groups of 10 every day, so be sure to check the site daily to see where your favorite 80s movies fall in the rankings—or if they made the list at all!

Also, be sure to check back later today for Lee McCutcheon’s Predator Canon post hitting later today for our thoughts on the importance of the movie.

What did you think about Harper’s retrospective? Did you learn anything new about Predator? Do you like Harper’s straightforward style or do you prefer your commentary to be more opinionated?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
