I don’t know if it’s due to the Mad Magazine effect—where pop culture  loses some of its effectiveness due to being parodied to death or the hipster effect—conflating being a contrarian with being cool but it seems like the tide has turned on The Exorcist. I don’t know if modern audiences find it hokey or if older audiences think it’s suddenly cool to shit on it but now, after decades of people considering it overrated, it’s no longer in the conversation as “the scariest film ever made.”

In Praise of Shadows’ video ‘Why The Exorcist is Still The Scariest Film Ever Made’ makes the case that yes, it is still the gold standard when it comes to horror and why all of you contrarian assholes need to go jump in a lake.

What did you think about In Praise of Shadow’s video? Are you a fan of The Exorcist or are you one of those lame ass hipsters?
