Two of this summer’s most-talked-about movies are finally heading to streaming. Universal and Disney have announced streaming premiere dates for How to Train Your Dragon and Elio, respectively.
Universal has revealed that the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon will premiere on Peacock on October 10, 2025. Additionally, the original animated How to Train Your Dragon trilogy will also be added to the streamer’s film library that month, with all three arriving ahead of the live-action remake on October 1, 2025.
“On the isle of Berk, Vikings and dragons have battled for generations, but that won’t stop Hiccup (Mason Thames), the son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), from building an unlikely bond with the feared dragon, Toothless. With an ancient evil threatening their worlds, it’s up to Hiccup, Toothless, and their courageous companion Astrid (Nico Parker) to make the realm realize they’re stronger together, and only through friendship and bravery can they overcome the challenges of a high-flying adventure,” reads the synopsis for How to Train Your Dragon.
Elio Was a Rare Box Office Flop for Pixar
Elio, on the other hand, will hit streaming a lot sooner. A September 17, 2025 premiere date on Disney+ has been set for the animated movie, which, unlike most of Pixar’s output, was unable to find an audience during its theatrical run. Despite a strong 83% critics’ score on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Elio debuted with the worst opening in Pixar’s history, earning just $21 million domestically over its first three days.
The latest Pixar movie follows its title character, Elio, an underdog kid with an active imagination who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, and completely unprepared for that kind of pressure, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, survive a series of formidable trials, and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.
Elio arrives on Disney+ on September 17, 2025, followed by How to Train Your Dragon on Peacock on October 10, 2025.
