It took three years, but Netflix is finally ready to make Extraction 3.
Per Deadline, Chris Hemsworth has closed a deal to return as mercenary Tyler Rake in a third Extraction movie for Netflix. Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani have also boarded the movie, reprising their respective roles as Alcott and Nik Khan.
Sam Hargrave is back to direct, while David Weil is confirmed to be writing the script, replacing Joe Russo, who scripted the previous two movies. Production is scheduled to start this summer, with filming reportedly set to occur in Australia and Europe.
Plot details remain under wraps for Extraction 3, although the sequel is expected to continue from where Extraction 2 ended. In the closing moments of the 2023 action movie, Alcott offers Tyler Rake and Nik Khan a way out of prison on the condition that they accept missions on behalf of his mysterious boss.
Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa will produce through AGBO; Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson will produce for Wild State along with Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.
Netflix Developing Extraction Shared Universe
This Extraction 3 update comes after a fruitful 2025 for the franchise, which saw two spinoffs enter production. The first, Mercenary, will star Omar Sy as Kalidou Diallo, who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages held in Libya, and finds himself trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers. Boyd Holbrook and Natalie Dormer also star in the eight-episode television series.
The other spinoff is the feature film Tygo, which will be set in South Korea. Don Lee leads the film as the titular former child-soldier turned mercenary who goes on a revenge mission through Korea’s criminal underworld.
All three upcoming Extraction projects are without release dates at this time, but will stream exclusively on Netflix.
