We have finally received our first official look at Jared Leto’s Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, courtesy of Vanity Fair.
Joker wasn’t part of the original Snyder Cut, but was added in during last year’s reshoots. Zack Snyder revealed that “The Joker is really the only thing that I thought of in retrospect. But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world.”
Vanity Fair describes this new take on Leto’s Joker as a “creature who crawled out of the basement of a long-abandoned insane asylum.” Joker will appear during Batman’s dream sequence where he envisions “a ruined Earth after the alien tyrant Darkseid invades and decimates the planet.”
The Snyder Cut will also give fans something that they will probably never see again: Leto’s Joker meeting Affleck’s Batman. Snyder said:
“The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman. It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is. That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together. It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”
Snyder revealed on his Twitter that we should be getting a new trailer for his cut of Justice League on February 14. Will we see a snippet of Leto’s Joker in it? I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I dig the new look.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League begins streaming March 18, 2021 on HBO Max.
