Movie: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Scene: Warehouse Takedown
THE PLAYERS
Director: Zack Snyder
Characters: Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill)
THE SETUP
In the aftermath of the events from 2013’s Man of Steel, Superman has become a controversial figure. Is he here to help or is he a threat? While Superman’s disguise known as Clark Kent is hot on a story about the Batman’s form of justice, Bruce Wayne, the billionaire behind the cowl, has determined that Superman is a threat to humanity and is looking for a fight. Wayne tells Alfred Pennyworth that he plans to steal the kryptonite and weaponize it, if necessary, to battle Superman. What they both don’t realize is Lex Luthor has been pulling the strings behind the curtain to have these two heavyweights throw down for his own personal agenda. Batman has trained and is ready for the fight as Lex kidnaps Martha Kent in order to force Superman to kill the Bat. This brings us to our scene.
THAT SCENE
THE EXECUTION
This is hands down the best Batman action sequence in the history of Batman on film and TV. I feel if people could look at this scene in a vacuum by itself without carrying their issues with the rest of the film into their viewing of this scene, they could appreciate it even more for what it is. And that is an absolute kick-ass Batman fight in a warehouse where he demolishes armed thugs with brutal and efficient tactics as a good Batman should. No, I don’t want to hear about the manner he dispatched these armed thugs and whether or not he killed any of them, ya pansies! “Don’t do evil stuff and evil stuff won’t happen to you”, is what I always say.
We get to see all the Dark Knight’s abilities on full display here. The new Batwing looks amazing. His fight skills, gadgets, and smarts are utilized to take out the armed thugs and save Martha Kent. “Martha!” The fight choreography is on point and some of the hits are just brutal. This is just a thrilling fight scene that every action and superhero fan should love. I think Ben Affleck did an incredible job as old gruff Batman and wish we had been able to see him get his own solo film with Snyder at the helm.
