‘Grease’ Spin-off Series Gets New Title

Back in October we posted about HBOMax ordering a Grease spin-off called Grease: Rydell High produced by Paramount Television. In typical Hollywood fashion that news is ever changing. Now it is being reported that the show is going to premiere on the new Paramount Plus and they are changing the title to, get this … Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies.

My god is that a terrible title. What are they thinking? Are the Pink Ladies also gonna solve murders like in Riverdale? Or are they going to try and take over the world by shooting a giant pink light into the sky and have the world taken over by more pink ladies from their home planet of Pinklandia? Drop Grease from the title and Rydell High was the perfect name for this spin-off. They could have kept the series pretty simple with or without it having musical numbers and possibly told some interesting stories. Now it just feels like a one off series that will have none of the allure of the original movie. Paramount is reclaiming its Grease prequel film Summer Lovin. So they are going all in on the retro. If they think this is going to be a flagship brand on the new network then I feel like they are doomed from the start.

But what do I know?

Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies set to premiere on Paramount Plus sometime in 2021.

What do you guys think? Any interest in this at all?
