Guillermo del Toro just won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature for Pinocchio, so what does that mean? That’s right, he gets to do whatever the fuck he wants to do next because he just won an Oscar and that’s the closest you can get to a golden meal ticket in Hollywood.
Per Deadline, del Toro’s next project will be a feature adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic 1818 novel Frankenstein. He will write and direct the picture for Netflix. Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth are in talks to star in the film, although no formal offers have been made at this time. However, del Toro has met with each actor and they all seem keen on starring in the film.
Plot details remain under wraps, so it is unknown if this will be a period piece or set in modern times. We also don’t know who del Toro wants for Doctor Frankenstein and who he wants for his monster (Garfield and Isaac are both too good-looking for the monster). Goth, however, is believed to playing Doctor Frankenstein’s love interest.
No word yet on when this film could begin production. We’ll keep you posted.
Are you excited to see del Toro’s take on Frankenstein? Who would you cast as the monster — Garfield or Isaac?
