Guy Ritchie Reportedly in Talks to Direct ‘Road House 2’

It looks like Doug Liman will not be returning to direct Road House 2.

According to the latest Puck report, Guy Ritchie is in negotiations to direct the sequel to the 2024 action remake, with Jake Gyllenhaal returning as lead star and Will Beall writing the screenplay. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry co-wrote the script for the first movie.

A Road House sequel was first announced during Amazon’s Upfront event in New York last May. “I am so ready, like I love this character, I love this world, I love the thing that we’ve created, and I can’t wait to bring more,” Gyllenhaal said at the Upfront presentation.

Road House Was a Major Hit on Prime Video

According to Amazon MGM Studios, Road House attracted a record-breaking 50 million worldwide viewers over its first two weekends, becoming the studio’s most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.

While Amazon declined to comment to Puck, the report speculates that Amazon’s new theaters-first strategy might lead to Road House 2 hitting theaters first before heading to Prime Video. If that actually happens, Liman will likely be pissed, given that he fought hard for the first Road House to go theatrical first (despite taking the bigger payday up front in exchange for a streaming-only release).

Road House is available to stream on Prime Video.
