A handful of upcoming films have just been handed official release dates. Let’s run them down.
Disney‘s new live-action Haunted Mansion, based on the Disneyland ride of the same name, will hit theaters on March 10, 2023.
In Haunted Mansion, “a single mom named Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) hires a tour guide (LaKeith Stanfield), a psychic (Tiffany Haddish), a priest (Owen Wilson), and a historian (Danny DeVito) to help exorcise their newly bought mansion after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts.”
Disney also removed two Untitled Searchlight Projects slated for April and June 2022 off the calendar, and scheduled The Banshees of Inisherin for limited release on October 21, 2022. That film stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson and was written and directed by Martin McDonagh.
Over at Universal, the studio has dated its comedy Strays for June 9, 2023. The live-acton/CGI hybrid directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) follows “a dog who gets revenge on the dirtbag owner who ditched him.” It stars Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, and Will Forte.
Universal has also set Renfield for April 14, 2023. The upcoming Universal Monsters film focuses on “Dracula’s loyal servant, Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”
Finally, Paramount has confirmed that A Quiet Place Part III will hit theaters in 2025. This would be the official sequel to A Quiet Place Part II. It is separate from the upcoming spin-off set for release on September 22, 2023.
